Noise Floor

« Back to Glossary Index

The noise floor is the level of unwanted background noise present in a system, such as an audio recording or an Assistive Listening System, when no desired signal is present. It represents the sum of all noise sources, both internal to the system and external, that interfere with the wanted signal being measured or auditioned.

A lower noise floor indicates a cleaner system with less background noise, enabling improved audibility and clarity, or the measurement of weaker signals.
