Traffic induction loops are coils of wire embedded in the road surface that detect the presence of vehicles by measuring changes in the magnetic field, commonly used to control traffic signals.

While technically accurate, a hearing loop and induction loop are interchangeable. However, the term ‘hearing loop’ is preferred over induction loop because it is more descriptive and more user-friendly.
