Using Telecoils in Your Cochlear Implant & Bone Anchored Devices

All cochlear implants and bone conduction devices have telecoils. The telecoil is in the device or it is in an accessory. Most users prefer telecoils in the CI processor, rather than in an accessory (easier to use, easier to remember to bring, one less thing to troubleshoot)

Finding and using your telecoil program
Below is the (scant) information we’ve been able to find from the manufacturers. Please email us with additional information.

Switching to telecoil program:
If enabled by the audiologist, the Built-in Telecoil offers access to private and public loop systems in some cinemas and meeting rooms. (editor note: telecoils also connect to FM/RF and IR assistive listening systems)

Input options: Adjusting the mix of your microphone and telecoil
You can adjust your microphone (M) and telecoil (T) settings.
- 50% M / 50% T mixture for conversation awareness. Visit with the person next to you and still receive the sound through your telecoil.
- 100% T to focus entirely on the speaker and decrease/sometimes eliminate loud background sounds.
- Some smartphone hearing device apps give users the option to set your own M/T mixture, such as 30/70.
